Hull Blue Plaque Trail at Hull
Few can resist glancing at a blue plaque to see what it says. Was someone famous born here? Is there something unusual about this ordinary-looking building? Or did it play an important part in the history of the place?
Plaques are there to surprise and to inform, and to help tell a story that can be as revealing to life-long residents as to thos visiting for the first time.
Kingston upon Hull has a proud tradition in its plaques, dating back almost 50 years, the first few having been put up to commemorate the Cornation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
Our distinctive plaques have been much admired. As befits a maritime city, they have a nautical appearance, with their characteristic gold ropework rim and inner circle.
Over the years, the City Council has put up as many as 30 plaques in the Old Town, which is the historic heart of the city. As well as plaques to famous people, families and events, you will find them marking our old town walls and gates, docks and other features of our maritime and industrial heritage, together with other buildings which are an important part of our history.
You can pick up your Guide Leaflet from Hull Tourist Information Centre, located next to the City Hall. The guide is not another "trail". It recognises your freedom to explore in your own way, but we hope it will help by providing a wealth of information for visitors and residents alike.
